Widespread Panic held the second of two straight summer tour opening shows at Brandon Amphitheater in Brandon, Mississippi on Saturday night. The band busted out the location appropriate “Thin Air (Smells Like Mississippi)” for the first time since 2014.

Frontman John Bell got things going with the first set opening “Stop-Go.” Van Morrison’s “And It Stoned Me” came next and the set also featured Bloodkin’s “Who Do You Belong To?” and such WSP classics as “All Time Low” and “Hatfield.” The recently introduced original “Sundown Betty” was also played for just its ninth time. The bust out of “Thin Air (Smells Like Mississippi)” came between “Can’t Get High” and the set-closing “Imitation Leather Shoes.” Last performed on June 27, 2014 (a span of 269 shows), it marked the first performance of the WSP original with drummer Duane Trucks.

The second set of the second show of summer tour began with “Junior” and a transition into “Ribs & Whiskey.” Panic then dropped in Murray McLaughlin’s “Honky Red,” which was followed by a sequence of “Surprise Valley” > “Airplane” > “Drums” > “Bust It Big.” Panic’s not-often played cover of Neil Young’s “Last Dance” ended the set. WSP came back for a two-song encore, first delivering “Nobody’s Loss” and following with Tom Petty’s “You Wreck Me.” Widespread Panic will next perform two sold-out shows at Red Rock Amphitheatre near Denver on June 29 and 30.
