Widespread Panic released video of a cover of Jorma Kaukonen’s ‘Genesis.” The clip comes from Panic’s Sunday, June 26, 2016 concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado.

“Genesis” is the opening track on Jorma’s 1974 album with Tom Hobson, Quah. While Quah was a collaborative effort, it marked the Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna guitarist’s debut solo album.

“Genesis” counts among WSP’s oldest covers. The band debuted the Kaukonen cut close to 34 years ago to the day (from today) on April 23, 1987, as per Everyday Companion. The song would remain an early staple cover for WSP until it was shelved after a single play in 1991. Panic brought “Genesis” back on New Year’s Eve 1995 and it has been played at least once each year since save for 2007 (and 2004 when the band was on hiatus).

Panic played “Genesis” five times in 2016. The 2016 Red Rocks version of the Jorma number came toward the end of the first set between Bloodkin’s “Who Do You Belong To?” and “Up All Night.”
