Widespread Panic Groups Songs By Album In Nashville
By Scott Bernstein Dec 31, 2016 • 7:13 am PST
On Friday night, Georgia rockers Widespread Panic played their first of two shows at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena that will bring 2016 to a close. The band gave fans a history lesson of sorts by grouping songs by album in chronologicial order on a night bassist Dave Schools showed off his new Alembic bass, dubbed “Moontimes.”
Panic opened with “Porch Song” off their 1988 debut Space Wrangler and followed with the title track of the LP. The band’s 1991 self-titled studio album was represented by “The Last Straw” and “Rock,” while “Postcard” and “Diner” came off 1993’s Everyday. WSP finished off the first set with a triple dose of 1994’s Ain’t Life Grand: “Blackout Blues,” “Junior” and “Fishwater.”
The tour of the studio albums continued with “Greta” off 1997’s Bombs & Butterflies. It was then time for “Bears Gone Fishin’, “Surprise Valley” and “Climb To Safety” from the 1999 studio album, Till The Medicine Take. Though WSP skipped 2001’s Don’t Tell The Band and a few albums that followed, next up was “Good People” from 2006’s Earth To America. Then, 2010’s Dirty Side Down was represented by “North” and “St. Ex” before Panic closed the second set with “Cease Fire,” “Steven’s Cat” and “Sell Sell” from their most recent LP, 2015’s Street Dogs.
For the encore, Widespread treated fans to Vic Chesnutt’s “Protein Drink/Sewing Machine” and Bloodkin’s “End Of The Show.” Tonight, WSP closes out 2016 with the help of strings, horns and backing vocalists at Bridgestone Arena.
