Widespread Panic Ends Night One In Knoxville With Wild Encore
By Scott Bernstein Apr 26, 2016 • 3:24 pm PDT
Georgia rockers Widespread Panic brought Spring Tour to the Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville on Monday night for the first of two shows at the venue. The night ended with a wild encore that saw the band mash-up Bobby Bland’s “Turn On Your Love Light” and Neil Young’s “Walk On,” among other songs.
The almost 20-minute-long encore followed a pair of career-spanning sets. Panic’s encore started innocently enough with “Nobody’s Loss” before the band launched into their first cover of Neil Young’s “Walk On” since Panic En La Playa in February. Drummer Duane Trucks picked up the pace between verses and his mates followed along. Keyboardist JoJo Hermann threw teases of The Allman Brothers Band’s “Jessica” into the mix, while guitarist John Bell rapped some of the lyrics to “Turn On Your Love Light” and Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds.” Duane and the group would alternate between the chunky “Walk On” rhythm and the more bluesy “Love Light” rhythm multiple times before Panic finally concluded the Neil Young cover.
