Widespread Panic Delivers Bust Out & The Band Covers In Jackson
By Scott Bernstein Apr 13, 2016 • 9:49 am PDT
Georgia rockers Widespread Panic continued Spring Tour last night with their first of two performances at Thalia Mara Hall in Jackson, Mississippi. The group busted out an original that hadn’t been played in nearly five years and treated fans to a double dose of The Band covers.
Widespread Panic went the old school route to the extreme for last night’s first set. “Thought Sausage,” which was debuted in 2000, was the newest original Panic played as part of Tuesday’s opening stanza. The set featured a bevy of classics including the first “The Take Out” in 40 shows. A pair of The Band covers, “Ophelia” and “The Shape I’m In,” ended last night’s first set.
The second set was also heavy on older material, but the biggest surprise of the night came towards the middle of the set when Widespread Panic played “Her Dance Needs No Body” for the first time since October 14, 2011 – a span of 265 shows. John Bell and Co. also covered Bob Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” for the second time since its debut on New Year’s Eve. “Saint Ex” and “Action Man” served as Tuesday night’s encore. Widespread Panic returns to Jackson tonight ahead of a headlining appearance at Wanee this weekend.
