Widespread Panic Concludes Red Rocks Run With Bust Outs & Col. Bruce Tribute

Georgia rockers Widespread Panic concluded a three-night run at Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado with their annual Sunday late afternoon show. The band had plenty of treats in store for their 54th straight sell out at the venue.

John Bell & Co. kicked off Sunday’s concert with the instrumental “A Of D” ahead of rockers “Tall Boy” and “Shut Up & Drive.” Next up was “You Got Yours” which was followed by the return of “Galleon” for the first time since July 20, 2001 – a span of 1,089 shows. “Airplane” led into a jam as did “Rebirtha” with hints of “Mountain Jam” coming out of the latter. A run of “Wondering,” “Good People” and “North” concluded the opening stanza.

Keyboardist JoJo Hermann sang lead on “Greta” to open the second set and the band pulled off an impressive segue into “All Time Low.” The meat of the second frame was a wild “Driving Song” > “Papa’s Home” > “Goin’ Out West” > “Pilgrims” > “Driving Song” sequence. Widespread Panic then served up “Last Dance” with the instrumental “E Of G” within. “E Of G” had been on the shelf since November 16, 2001.

The band returned to the stage for the encore sporting “Grease” t-shirts in honor of the late Col. Bruce Hampton. After “Jack” to start the encore, WSP lit into Cream’s “I’m So Glad.” Hampton loved to cover “I’m So Glad” and did so just before his untimely passing. Panic had only performed “I’m So Glad” once prior, on July 8, 2003. Bell then led his mates through Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home” to end the memorable concert.
