Widespread Panic Busts Out ‘Glory’ In Austin

Widespread Panic continued their Spring Tour last night with the second of three-shows at Austin City Limits Live at Moody Theater in Austin, Texas. Like the Friday night opener, Saturday’s show saw Panic bust out a song that had been shelved for more than a year and a half to open the second set.

“Tall Boy” got the show going, leading an opening sequence that included “Little Lilly” within “Suprise Valley” followed by “Henry Parsons Died.” The first set also saw the classic pairing of “No Sugar Tonight”/”New Mother Nature” as well as the newer “Street Dogs for Breakfast” which went into WSP staple “Hatfield,” followed by the set closing “Tail Dragger.”

While Friday’s tour opener saw Widespread dust-off a cover song, Saturday’s second set began with the band busting out the original “Glory” for the first time in 121 shows, last being played on June 24, 2014 at Pinewood Bowl Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska. WSP staples “Blackout Blues” and “Second Skin” preceded a pair of newer tunes “Cease Fire” and “Jamais Vu” ahead of “Drums.” The second set closed with a trio of longtime favorites, “Papa’s Home” > “Blight” > “North.” For the final song of the three-song encore, frontman John Bell traded his guitar for mandolin on “Ain’t Life Grand.” Panic concludes their three-night stand at ACL with a show tonight.
