In March, Whitney announced their first U.S. tour in two years and revealed that a follow-up to their 2016 debut, Light Upon The Lake, was coming later in the year. Now, the Chicago band featuring vocalist/drummer Julien Ehrlich and guitarist Max Kakacek have made good on their promise with the announcement of Whitney’s sophomore album, Forever Turned Around.

Due out on August 30 via Secretly Canadian, the collection was co-produced by Brad Cook (Bon Iver, Hand Habits) and Jonathan Rado (Father John Misty, Weyes Blood). In addition to Whitney’s star duo, the album also features original rhythm guitarist Ziyad Asrar as well as lush string arrangements provided by Chicago musicians Lia Kohl and Macie Stewart.

Check out a description of the LP from a press release announcing its upcoming release:

Ehrlich and Kakacek grapple with the anxiety and acceptance that time is limited and navigate questions of mortality, doubt, love, and friendship. It’s an album about partnership — romantic, familial and communal, but most importantly a love in friendship: the bonds between two best friends and creative partners and the joy and stress that comes with it.

To support Forever Turned Around, Whitney has also released lead single “Giving Up,” which was premiered on SiriusXMU. The laidback track touches on the ups and downs of long-term relationships, pairing the mournful lyrics with a soulful, R&B-inspired instrumental backing highlighted by a triumphant trumpet solo.
