Whitney unveiled a cover of David Byrne & Brian Eno’s “Strange Overtones” from their forthcoming covers album. Candid is set for release on Friday, August 14 via Secretly Canadian.
“Strange Overtones” was originally released by Byrne & Eno on their collaborative 2008 studio album, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today. Whitney, the Chicago-based duo consisting of Julien Erlich and Max Kakacek, covered the song for Candid, which also includes covers of tunes by The Roches, John Denver, SWV and more.

“The most fun part of recording this was figuring out the solo,” said Kakacek of “Strange Overtones.” The guitarist added, “Malcolm slayed it on the piano and having him tackle it made so much sense even though this is the first time we’ve ever had a keys solo on a recorded track. I remember after his take, which killed, he said, ‘I went into it thinking Bruce Hornsby but I came out of it thinking Bruce Springsteen.'”
