Among the songs included on Jack White’s recently issued retrospective acoustic compilation Jack White Acoustic Recordings 1998 – 2016 was a previously unheard The White Stripes song “City Lights.” The release of the track marked the first new music from the defunct duo since 2008 and now the band that includes drummer Meg White has shared an official video for the song.
Originally recorded for the 2005 The White Stripes album Get Behind Me Satan, the “City Lights” recording was uncovered by White while preparing a Third Man Records release for Record Store Day. Previous The Whites Stripes video collaborator, French director Michael Gondry created a video for “City Lights” without alerting anyone of his intentions, surprising White and Third Man Records with his creation.
