Ween Goes Acoustic In Minnesota

Ween made the most of their lone show at Roy Wilkins Auditorium Thursday night, dialing up a career-spanning performance in their return to the venue located in St.Paul. Among the highlights of the quintet’s first appearance in the Twin Cities since 2010 was a mid-set sequence of several partially acoustic songs.
“Don’t Shit Where You Eat” opened the show as the first of 30 songs that would played Thursday evening. A few songs later Ween played the first “It’s Gonna Be a Long Night” of 2016, after takes on such favorites as “Buckingham Green,” “Spinal Meningitis (Got Me Down),” “The HIV Song” and “I Don’t Want It,” they broke out the rarity “Monique The Freak” for the first time this year.
At that point Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman and Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo sat on stools for a partially acoustic portion of the show. With both utilizing acoustic guitars, the band worked up performances of “Birthday Boy,” “Tried and True,” “Mister, Would You Please Help My Pony?,” “Drifter in the Dark” and “The Mollusk.” An electric “Roses Are Free” came out of the acoustic segment and the show later saw Gener standing at a lectern for “Pollo Asado.” The main set ended with “Bananas and Blow” followed by a four song encore capped by “Nan.” Watch audience-shot highlights of last night’s concert in St. Paul below:
