Ween Dusts Off ‘Mango Woman’ For The First Time Since 1992

On Sunday night Ween concluded a run of three shows at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York that brought the band’s first year together since 2011 to a close. Guitarists Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo and Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman, drummer Claude Coleman, Jr., bassist Dave Dreiwitz and keyboardist Glenn McClelland had a number of surprises in store including the return of a beloved rarity.

Ween began their Cap finale with a handful of “B” songs: “Buckingham Green,” “Bananas And Blow” and “Beacon Light.” Next up was “Stay Forever,” which was followed by former rarity yet 2016 staple “The Stallion Pt. 1.” The band proceeded to perform material from throughout their career over the course of the 28-song, near three-hour show. “Voodoo Lady” saw the group show off their improvisational chops as did the “LMYLP” finale, only the second time Ween had played the GodWeenSatan classic since reuniting.

Ever since returning in February Ween has busted out and debuted many songs from their back catalog thought to be lost forever. One such instance took place towards the end of Sunday’s main set, when Ween dusted off “Mango Woman” for what is thought to be the first time since December 9, 1992. “Mango Woman” is said to have been premiered on December 9, 1992; a show released in 2008 as At The Cat’s Cradle, 1992. The band recorded a studio version of the tune that was issued in 1993 as a b-side for the “Push th’ Little Daisies” single. Next up for Ween is a three-show run at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas February 17 – 19, 2017.
