Weather Report ‘Legendary Live Tapes’ Box Set Coming

On November 20 Legacy Recordings will release Weather Report: The Legendary Live Tapes: 1978 – 1981, a four-disc box set of previously unreleased live recordings from the influential jazz-fusion act. The box set showcases the group’s classic lineup of Joe Zawinul (keyboards), Wayne Shorter (saxophone), Jaco Pastorius (electric bass), Peter Erskine (drums) and Robert Thomas, Jr. (Hand Drums) at the peak of their improvisational powers.
The collection has been assembled, curated and produced by Peter Erskine and Tony Zawinul (the song of the late Joe Zawinul). Erskine also provided the liner notes. Tony is currently working on a Weather Report documentary film titled THIS IS THIS. Weather Report’s longtime mixing engineer Brian Risner recorded much of the never-before-heard soundboard tapes that make up the new release along with select bootleg recordings from the audience. Erskine and Zawinul aimed to present a variety of key individual performances rather than attempt to recreate the ebb and flow of a Weather Report setlist of the era.

Weather Report: The Legendary Live Tapes: 1978 – 1981 is currently available for pre-order via Amazon.com.
