Jason Isbell joined singer-songwriter Allison Russell for a cover of “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.” Russell and her band were opening for Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit on night six of their eight-concert residency.
“Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” was the first single off Stevie Nicks’ 1981 debut solo album, Bella Donna, and the only one on the album she did not have a hand in writing. Tom Petty and Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell originally penned the tune. Petty sang with Nicks on the song along with members of the Heartbreakers playing on the track.
For their performance at the Ryman, Isbell added guitar and dueted with Russell, who played banjo, in a similar fashion as Petty and Nicks. The guest spot and choice cover closed out Russell’s set.
