Watch Expanded Version Of The Black Crowes On ‘Storytellers’ In 1996

Earlier this month a terrible year for the loss of musicians continued with word longtime Black Crowes keyboardist Eddie Harsch had died. Harsch was a valuable contributor to the best of the Black Crowes’ many lineups and was beloved not only by his band mates but by his fans. The work of Eddie Harsch was on display when The Black Crowes performed in NYC back in 1996 for VH-1’s Storytellers episode.

The Black Crowes performed at The Bottom Line in New York City for the new-at-the-time VH-1 Storytellers series on August 27, 1996. Brothers Chris Robinson and Rich Robinson started off the performance with duo performances of “Nonfiction” and “Good Friday.” Chris would intersperse the stories behind the songs and of the band’s origins throughout the set. After the first two songs the brothers were joined by Harsch and drummer Steve Gorman for impressive takes on “Under A Mountain” and “Thorn In My Pride” before the rest of the band came out.

Once the full band was on the stage Chris mentioned it was time for “real rock stories” and talked about how songs like “Jealous Again,” “Wiser Time” and “Remedy” came together. The Crowes went unplugged for their Storytellers performance and Harsch’s barrelhouse piano work shines throughout. An expanded version of The Black Crowes’ Storytellers performance can be viewed below:
