As reported, on Monday Dead & Company played BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida just 20 minutes south of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 17 students and teachers were killed and 14 others hospitalized in a mass shooting that took place on February 14. Members of the band took time to meet with and talk to survivors of the horrific event and their families. Videos showing Bob Weir and Mickey Hart speaking to the survivors have surfaced.

In a clip shared by Sergio Rozenblat, Weir and Hart applaud the students for their activism in the wake of the mass shooting. Bobby tells them about HeadCount, who could provide them feedback on their efforts. “If you all want to do it and get involved, you can go out and register voters and no one’s going to argue with that. What are they going to say? I’ve got better things to do? They can’t,” Weir said adding, “You guys can save our democracy.” Watch the video:

Mickey Hart shared video featuring a different portion of the speech. Bobby told the students, “You speak for so many people and you’re speaking so eloquently!” Hart went on to pass along a message from iconic singer/activist Joan Baez. “She asked me to give you her love and tell you how much she respects you for doing this.” Mickey went on to say, “You have to do it, she said. You have to be in the streets, you have to get out there and you knock and don’t let go!” Here’s the video Mickey shared:
