Videos: The Avett Brothers Debut New Song At Night 2 Of Their Red Rocks Stand

The Avett Brothers continued their three night sold out stand at the historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre last night in Morrison, Colorado. The Americana act’s career-spanning show featured the debut of a new song, Jerry Garcia Band, Merle Haggard and Doc Watson covers and only one repeat from the previous night.

The Avetts’ lengthy 35-song set saw the band dig deep into their catalog for the second night in a row, as they once again offered up tunes from ten of their releases. The band opened up the night with the mellow and reflective “Morning Song,” from 2013’s Magpie And The Dandelion, from their they reached back to 2007’s Emotionalism for “Paranoia In B Flat Major.” The early part of the set also featured “January Wedding” from I And Love And You, “Talk on Indolence” from Four Thieves Gone, and “Down With The Shine” from The Carpenter, as well as their cover of Merle Haggard’s “Mama Tried.”

The folk and bluegrass act also used the opportunity to debut a brand new song called “Roses & Sacrifices.” The heartfelt Seth Avett-sung relationship tune came about a third of the way through the set. The rest of the night saw them perform four tunes from 2003’s A Carolina Jubilee with “I Killed Sally’s Lover, “Love Like the Movies,” “The Traveling Song” and “Walking For You,” as well as tracks from The Second Gleam, Mignonette and True Sadness. The Avett’s also treated the sold out crowd to just their sixth take on the Jerry Garcia Band staple “Mission In The Rain,” as well as Doc Watson’s “Wanted Man,” and the traditional bluegrass number “Blue Ridge Mountain Blues.”

The Avett Brothers close out their three-night Red Rocks run tonight with support from Shovels & Rope.
