Video | Widespread Panic At Mavis Staples Tribute

Last night a bevy of musical all-stars including Gregg Allman, Aaron Neville, Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal and Emmylou Harris came together at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago to honor the great Mavis Staples. We’ll have a full report on I’ll Take You There -Celebrating 75 Years of Mavis Staples soon, but in the mean time we wanted to share the setlist and fan-shot video of Widespread Panic’s two-song performance at the event.

Widespread Panic took the stage at the start of the event’s second set and were joined by a trio of backing vocalists. Duane Trucks was on drums for the Georgia rockers’ performances of “Hope In A Hopeless World” and “For What It’s Worth.” The former was co-written by Pops Staples, while the latter was recorded by The Staples Singers in 1967. Panic had only performed “For What It’s Worth” once since 1988 – back on February 10, 2011 in their hometown of Athens.
