“AS TEARS GO BY” IN CHICAGO

The Rolling Stones’ 50 and Counting Tour continued last night at the United Center for their third of three shows at the Chicago venue. Special guests included Taylor Swift, who emerged seven songs into the Stones’ set for the tour debut of “As Tears Go By” and Mick Taylor who sat in on the tour’s second version of “Sway” and his nightly performances of “Midnight Rambler” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”
The Stones are getting a bit more adventurous with their guest spot song selections as last night’s “As Tears Go By” was the first version of the tune they’ve played since a November 1, 2006 show at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. “As Tears Go By,” which was written by Jagger/Richards and former Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham, was originally recorded by Marianne Faithfull in 1964 before The Stones put their on spin on it the following year. Taylor’s got pipes and did a nice job on the tune.
