Video | Funny Or Die – Tom Petty Wont Back Down

Last week, Tom Petty won praise for his “chill” statement released after word came out that he had reached an agreement with pop star Sam Smith for both he and Jeff Lynne to receive co-songwriting credits on Smith’s big hit -“Stay With Me.” The similarities between a chorus of “Stay With Me” and the Petty/Lynne-penned “I Won’t Back Down” led to the unusual arrangement. Today, Funny Or Die weighed in on the situation.

In the video, “Tom Petty” scans the radio dial to come across some of the songs that he wrote as well as tunes bearing striking similarities to his own compositions. We especially dig the part when “Petty” freaks out on another driver whose car horn sounds a lot like his own leading “Tom” to scream, “I got your license plate, thief! Don’t f– with me! I’ll steal 12 percent of your soul!”
