Dave Matthews filled in for Paul Simon in more ways than one last night in New York City as he led Ladysmith Black Mambazo through a version of the group’s Graceland classic they had originally recorded with Paul -“Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes” -at Carnegie Hall.

Paul Simon was originally supposed to be Ladysmith’s guest last night as part of the South African group’s Ladysmith Black Mambazo & Friends performance, but Simon pulled out for undisclosed reasons and was replaced on the bill by Matthews. Dave and Ladysmith Black Mambazo were joined by one of the evening’s other guests -Paul Simon bassist Bakithi Kumalo -for “Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes.” Watch a video of “Diamonds” shot by tuberevenge:
