Bob and his band wound up ditching their usual setlist and treated Fredrik to performances of Buddy Holly’s “Heartbeat,” Fats Domino’s “Blueberry Hill,” Chuck Wills’s “It’s Too Late (She’s Gone)” as well as “Key To The Highway.” “I had an endless series of meetings where I managed to convince people my extreme fandom made me the best candidate for the enviable task,” Wikingsson told Rolling Stone’s Andy Greene.
“I’m very passive and I always picture myself as the guy that wouldn’t be able to save himself on a sinking ship. I’d just lay down and die. I have no real ability to grab the moment, but when I heard about this I thought, ‘For once, I have to stop everything in my life and go for something.'”
Before heading to Philadelphia, Fredrik toured historic Bob Dylan landmarks in NYC. Greene reveals that Wikingsson was so nervous about the experience he couldn’t down any food. “I was a fucking wreck,” Fredrik told Greene. “Part of me was thinking, ‘Maybe this won’t happen and it’ll be for the best. I don’t want to impose on Mr. Dylan. I don’t want him to stand there and be grouchy, just hating it.'”
As you can imagine, in the end, Fredrik Wikingsson had the experience of a lifetime. “I was smiling so much it was like I was on ecstasy. My jaw hurt for hours afterwards because I couldn’t stop smiling.”
