Venue News | San Francisco Elbo Room May Be Demolished

SFStation explains that the owners of the two-story building currently hosting Elbo Room, Dennis Ring and Susan Rokisky-Ring, “want to build condos with an elevator so they can live in the building as they age.” The Rings, who previously owned Elbo Room before selling it to a pair of their employees in 2010, live nearby the Valencia Street building in a home that has “too many stairs with no elevator.” According to SFStation, “After demolition, architects will construct a five-story, nine-unit building with a roof deck on top and room for commercial space on the ground floor.”
The good news is that Elbo Room’s owners still have about a year left on the venue’s property lease (it expires on November 1, 2015) and the project hasn’t been approved, which gives locals time to organize efforts against the proposal. SFStation does report that “The Rings promised to help relocate the Elbo Room elsewhere in the Mission, but skeptics remain.”
Photos of the proposed structure can be viewed at SFWeekly.
