Vampire Weekend Covers ‘Gloria’ In St. Louis

Vampire Weekend hit St. Louis on Wednesday night where they held a concert at The Fabulous Fox Theatre as part of their Father Of The Bride Tour. Ezra Koenig and company paid tribute to The St. Louis Blues — who won their first Stanley Cup during the show — with a cover of Laura Branigan’s “Gloria,” The Blues’ victory song.
“Gloria” opened up VW’s five-song encore followed by a fitting “Big Blue,” a single off Vampire Weekend’s latest LP Father Of The Bride. The show also contained a number of tour debuts including “I Stand Corrected,” a cover of Labi Siffre’s “I Got The…” and “Finger Black.” During the encore, the band took audience requests of “Hannah Hunt” and “Symphony” before closing out the concert with “Walcott.”
It was an eventful night in St. Louis. Phish was wrapping up their two-night tour opener at Chaifetz Arena. VW’s Koenig and Chris Tomson stopped in to see Mike Gordon, who tweeted out a picture of the trio taken by Phish photographer Rene Huemer. Check out the tweet, setlist and a fan-shot clip posted by Mike Welser of VW covering “Gloria” below:
