Vampire Weekend swung by 30 Rock on Monday to end an eventful five days in New York City. The hometown heroes performed “Connect” from their 2024 studio album, Only God Was Above Us, on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Frontman Ezra Koenig, drummer Chris Tomson and bassist Chris Baio were joined by a trio of backing vocalist and auxiliary musicians for the six-minute performance of the lilting song. Koenig was dressed in a jump suit while the rest of the ensemble sported construction vests that read “VW Tunnel Crew” and their equipment was draped in yellow caution tape.

Ezra Koenig showed off his prowess on the vibraphone towards the end of “Connect.” Baio utilized an exe in the style of Paul McCartney’s famed Hofner bass. The backing vocalists held music books in front of them throughout the theatrical performance.

Only God Was Above Us was released on April 5. 20th Century New York City inspired the 10-track follow-up to 2019’s Father Of The Bride. Manhattan was one of the cities across the globe where Vampire Weekend recorded the album.

Vampire Weekend played a two-show run at Madison Square Garden over the weekend. On Saturday, the band paid tribute to Billy Joel by covering one of his most beloved songs. VW’s latest trip to NYC began on Thursday with a surprise pop-up show in Chinatown.

The Only God Was Above Us Tour moves on to North Carolina for concerts in Wilmington tonight (October 8) and in Raleigh tomorrow (October 9). Vampire Weekend was supposed to perform in Asheville on Sunday, October 13, but canceled the show in the wake of Hurricane Helene. The band will donate proceeds from the Wilmington and Raleigh shows to BeLoved Asheville to aid in their relief efforts in the area.
