Vampire Weekend Covers Crowded House In Cleveland

Vampire Weekend continues to embrace their jam scene influence by switching up the setlist each night, debuting covers, digging deep into their repertoire and fitting teases in certain songs as well as taking requests. One of the latest covers debuted by Vampire Weekend was a take on Crowded House‘s “Don’t Dream It’s Over” on Friday night at Jacobs Pavilion in Cleveland.
Ezra Koenig handled lead vocals on the song from Crowded House’s self-titled 1986 debut studio album. “Don’t Dream It’s Over” came during the band’s 29-song performance in Cleveland. Vampire Weekend opened their encore with “Big Blue” and then performed the Neil Finn-penned classic. The band went on to play “Ottoman,” “How Long?” and “Flower Moon” by request before finishing the night with “Worship You” and “Ya Hey.”

Earlier in the night, the New York City-birthed band offered the tour debuts of “Spring Snow” and “Giant.” They also teased Toots & The Maytals’ “Pressure Drop” within their own “Diplomat’s Son” and offered a nice mix of tunes from each of VW’s four studio albums. Vampire Weekend concluded the 22-song main set with “I Think Ur A Contra” ahead of the seven-song encore complete with “Don’t Dream It’s Over.”
