Los Angeles-based Valley Queen shared a new single, “Your Red Light,” featuring fellow L.A.-based guitarist William Tyler and pop outfit Cosmo Gold. The track, which premieres exclusively below, will be issued on May 15 as a special 7” vinyl release backed by the single, “Bad Astrology,” also featuring Tyler. Pre-order the singles here.

Valley Queen’s lead singer Natalie Carol and Cosmo Gold frontwoman Emily Gold co-wrote “Your Red Light.” Carol shared the following regarding the new song:

“Your Red Light” is a song about setting a firm and loving boundary. Speaking as much to the self as to the external world, singing it acts as a declaration of who I love but what I will not tolerate. I co-wrote this song with my friend, Emily Gold, who understood the context of where the song was coming from. We would send voice memos back and forth and lyrics via text, we wrote the song in a day.

The new track was produced and mixed by Valley Queen bassist Neil Wogensen at Paint The Birds Studios in Highland Park, California and mastered by Daniel Eaton at L.A.’s Little Castle Mastering.

“We had met William Tyler outside of Marfa, Texas, at the Trans Pecos Festival the fall of last year and I’ve been an admirer of his work tracing back to his time in Silver Jews,” Carol added. “Both living in L.A., I reached out to him soon after we got back from Marfa to ask him to be a part of it and he came up with the most beautiful guitar arrangements right in the studio.”

Directed and edited by Alex Justice and shot in Los Angeles at Lucca Mart, the “Your Red Light” video can be viewed here:
