Umphrey’s McGee Welcomes Jennifer Hartswick & Natalie Cressman In Las Vegas

Chicago sextet Umphrey’s McGee completed a two-night stand at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas on Saturday night one day after their UMBowl extravaganza. UM’s Sin City finale featured guest appearances from Natalie Cressman and Jennifer Hartswick of the Trey Anastasio Band and included the return of a Sade cover for the first time in nearly 1,000 shows.
Umphrey’s McGee kicked off Saturday’s show with the “You Got The Wrong Guy” instrumental intro ahead of “Speak Up.” The pairing of “Bridgeless” > “Hajimemashite” came next along with “Dump City.” “Nemo” gave way to a well-jammed “In The Kitchen” before the band finished “Nemo.” Hartswick and Cressman then came out to help UM end the first set with the original “Red Tape” (the first of 2016) and a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.”
One of the biggest surprises of the night came within the second set, when Hartswick emerged to lead the group on a cover of Sade’s “No Ordinary Love.” Umphrey’s hadn’t performed Sade’s 1992 hit since May 25, 2007 – a span of 991 shows. Cressman then came out as UM closed out the second set aided by the horns on “Women Wine And Song” and “Wife Soup.” The sextet started the encore by themselves in reviving their recently debuted cover of Prince’s “Controversy” before Jen and Natalie returned for a horn-driven “Bad Friday” finale. Next up for UM is their annual headlining appearance at the Summer Camp Music Festival in Chillicothe, Illinois over Memorial Day Weekend.
