Umphrey’s McGee performed Saturday night at The Fillmore Auditorium in Denver marking the second of three shows making up their New Year’s Run. Saxophonist Jeff Coffin sat-in with the band and the show also featured the debut of an UM original and a Joe Jackson cover.

“Miss Tinkle’s Overture” opened Saturday’s show, followed by “Booth Love” and the instrumental “Kimble.” The band worked elements of “Gents” into “Rocker Part 2” and they teased Michael Jackson’s “Workin’ Day And Night” within “Day Nurse.” The classic “August” came ahead of the debut of “Half Delayed,” an original UM song that’s a single on the band’s upcoming studio album it’s not us. Coffin then emerged to add sax to a set-closing performance of “Speak Up.”

Set two began with “Hurt Bird Bath” and lighting director Jefferson Waful continued showing off his arsenal of lasers at various points in the show, spraying the auditorium during “The Triple Wide.” The set progressed with “Upward” and then guitarist Brendan Bayliss led the group through their first live performance of Joe Jackson’s “Steppin’ Out.” In a nod to tonight’s festivities, “Auld Lang Syne” teases were incorporated into the set-ending “Dump City.”

Saturday’s show began with an opening set by Eminence Ensemble and Umphrey’s began their encore with The Who’s “Eminence Front.” The show concluded with the conclusion of “JaJunk,” completing the version begun the night prior. UM will ring in 2018 with one more concert in Denver tonight at The Fillmore.
