Chicago sextet Umphrey’s McGee recently released the documentary Reel To Real for on-demand viewing via Vimeo and today unveiled a soundtrack for the film. Umphrey’s has issued an 11-track release that mixes new songs, old classics and the movie’s main title described as “audio ambien.” The LP is available for purchase in MP3, FLAC and ALAC formats via Umlive.net as well as for streaming using the nugs.net app.
The soundtrack opens with the previously released single “Gone For Good” and an acoustic version of “Glory” performed entirely by guitarist Jake Cinninger. Reel To Real also includes two versions of the movie’s main title “Australian Lullaby” written by guitarist Brendan Bayliss. UM notes the song is “audio ambien” and advises “do not operate heavy machinery while listening.” Next up is a rare acoustic “Plunger” from the group’s True Hollywood Stories performance in West Hollywood on March 16, 2012 as well as the story of the song. From there, the LP contains three tracks recorded at Jake’s Boondocks Studio ahead of the soundtrack-closing “Orfeo” plucked from UM’s 1998 debut album Greatest Hits Vol. III.
