Umphrey’s McGee kicked off their Plan Bee Spring Tour on Friday with the first of two drive in concerts at Atlanta Motor Speedway. UM worked in classics, a rarity and a Pink Floyd cover for the Plan Bee opener.
Umphrey’s McGee — guitarist Brendan Bayliss and Jake Cinninger, drummer Kris Myers, bassist Ryan Stasik, keyboardist Joel Cummins and percussionist Andy Farag — came firing out of the gate with “Roctopus.” Bayliss led the band through the first few lyrics before the band dropped into the heavy, harmonized riffage ahead of some quick tapping from Jake. BB then delivered his guitar line before stepping back to the mic. Cinninger reeled of some shred as the band thrashed through the song ahead of Cummins manning the synth for the coda.

Next up, came the band’s 2020 single “Suxity,” which contained Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Chile” teases, as per All Thing Umphreys. UM then segued their way through “The Linear,” “Conduit” and “Kabump” with the latter seeing a call back to “Conduit” which led the sextet back into the song itself. The staple “Miss Tinkle’s Overture” brought the first frame to a close.
Umphrey’s started the nearly seamless second set with “Bridgeless” before heading into “Remind Me” ahead of the rarity “Sludge & Death.” UM has played the song just 13 times since debuting it in early 2004, as per ATU. Two more staples in “Resolution,” which contained a tease of the Page McConnell-composed Phish instrumental “Cars Trucks Buses,” and “Hurt Bird Bath” followed to close out the continuous section. A cover of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” brought the second set to a close. Umphrey’s Mcgee retook the stage for an encore of “August,” which was prefaced by teases of Eve’s “Let Me Blow Ya Mind.” The band also worked in elements of Guns ‘N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” during the “August” encore.
