Umphrey’s McGee kicked off a three-show run at the Georgia Theatre in Athens, Georgia on Thursday night with drummer Duane Trucks of local jam stalwarts Widespread Panic filling in for UM drummer Kris Myers. The evening’s setlist featured a few rarities, including UM’s first performance of Pink Floyd’s “Fearless” in seven years.

Trucks was again behind the kit with UM as Myers continues to recover from shoulder surgery. The penultimate selection of the first set was “Fearless.” Umphrey’s McGee last played the song Pink Floyd released on their 1971 album Meddle during their March 13, 2016 concert, making it a gap of 586 shows between appearances and only its seventh UM performance overall.

Another unexpected cover was played during Thursday’s second set. Toto’s “Rosanna” surfaced in the middle of the set, having last been played by UM on October 10, 2021, racking up a gap of 159 shows. The evening’s encore started with UM guitarist’s Brendan Bayliss’ heartfelt “The Weight Around” and another rarely played cover. The night ended with Elton John’s “Bennie And The Jets” making its fourth Umphrey’s McGee setlist, following a bust out with Trucks behind the kit back in August.

Umphrey’s McGee and Duane Trucks play the Georgia Theatre again tonight (Friday, December 1) and tomorrow (Saturday, December 2). Livestreams are available for subscribers.
