The 2014 Wanee Festival was closed out by Umphrey’s McGee four years today. UM’s second of two sets at the Spirit Of The Suwannee Music Park event in Live Oak, Florida was one of their “All Night Wrong” affairs filled with covers. The band welcomed a handful of guests to bring Wanee ’14 to its conclusion.

Umphrey’s began the late night set at the 10th annual Wanee with their “Life During Exodus” mashup featuring portions of “Life During Wartime” (Talking Heads), “Exodus” (Bob Marley) and “City Of Tiny Lites” (Frank Zappa). John Popper of Blues Traveler was the first guest of the set. Popper added harmonica to a cover of “Miss You” by The Rolling Stones.” Then, bassist Oteil Burbridge replaced Ryan Stasik for Steely Dan’s “Hey Nineteen” and “When The World Is Running Down You Make The Best Of What’s Still Around” by The Police.

The six-piece continued on without any guests for a dub version of Pink Floyd’s “Breathe.” Lettuce drummer Adam Deitch and guitarist Eric Krasno then emerged for UM’s first cover of “A Go Go” by Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood in over a year. Deitch replaced Umphrey’s drummer Kris Myers on the title track from MSMW’s 1998 album. The evening’s next guest was Warren Haynes, who added to takes on Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” and The Doobie Brothers’ “Black Water.”

Umphrey’s McGee kept the classic rock covers coming by ending the set with a run of The Who’s “Baba O’Riley,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Power Of Soul” and “Cheap Sunglasses” by ZZ Top. The Chicago-based band closed out the festival with a two-song encore. First up was a bust out of Van Halen’s “Runnin’ With The Devil,” which UM hadn’t performed in 120 shows. Then, Kraz joined in on The Beatles’ “I Want You (She’s So Heavy).”
