On Saturday night, Cathead Distillery hosted the second and final night of its Cathead Jam in Jackson, Mississippi. With Umphrey’s McGee tapped at the top of the bill alongside Greensky Bluegrass, UM took advantage of the acoustic pickers on hand by welcoming out Paul Hoffman and Anders Beck during the Chicago jam act’s headlining set.

For the collaboration, the Greensky duo and Umphrey’s McGee worked through a take on Marshall Tucker Band’s “Can’t You See.” The 10-minute rendition saw Hoffman lead the vocals and play mandolin, while Beck was stationed to the side of Jake Cinninger on dobro. The cover follows up a February 18, 2017 show in Asheville, North Carolina, when Beck, Hoffman and Umphrey’s again joined forces for the 1973 rock tune.
The “Can’t You See” cover fell toward the end of Umphrey’s McGee’s set. To start off the night, the six-piece offered up classic “August” followed by a well-segued combination of “Plunger” into “Push The Pig.” Continuing to draw on long-standing fan-favorites, the group used “Mulche’s Odyssey” to sandwich a take on “Wappy Sprayberry.” After the set-closing “The Bottom Half,” the band offered up a three-set encore of “Den,” “Cut The Cable” and “Booth Love.”
