Umphrey’s McGee & Gene Ween Reunite Godboner At Lockn’ Festival

Yesterday marked the start of the 2016 edition of the annual Lockn’ Festival in Arrington, Virginia. Thursday’s slate of performers included Umphrey’s McGee and Ween, and members of the two bands joined forces to once again erect the mighty Godboner for a song during UM’s main stage set.
Umphrey’s McGee began their set immediately following an appearance by Vulfpeck, starting “Nipple Trix” as the Lockn’ rotating stage spun around to reveal the sextet. Toward the end of the set UM welcomed Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman to the stage, reforming Godboner just as they did for their “Godboner Meets Geen Ween” debut at the 2015 Summer Camp Music Festival. Like they did then, last night the collective took on “The Stranger” by Billy Joel – a regularly covered UM tune that was also part of the Gene Ween Does Billy Joel shows staged last year – for a rendition sung by Gener.
The Godboner reunion was captured by j cornell, view “The Stranger” here:
