Umphrey’s McGee Dusts Off Tenacious D & Derek And The Dominos Covers In Missoula

Chicago rockers Umphrey’s McGee brought their West Coast focused tour back to The Wilma Theatre in Missoula, Montana for the second of two shows on Saturday night. The first set included an acoustic segment, while the second set was filled with heavy hitters.

UM kicked off the festivities with an expansive “All In Time” they segued into “Anchor Drops.” An extended “2×2” came next before guitarists Jake Cinninger and Brendan Bayliss strapped on acoustics for the year’s first “Uncle Wally.” The biggest surprise of the night and tour thus far followed as Bayliss stepped up to the mic to sing “Kielbasa” by Tenacious D. Brendan last sang the song on an UM stage way back on April 26, 2002 – a span of an unbelievable 1,782 shows. It was then back to the electrics as the sextet ended the first set with a “Draconian” > “Partyin’ Peeps” sequence.

Saturday’s second set was loaded with jam songs. An adventurous “Wappy Sprayberry” > “Ringo” began the closing stanza ahead of fan favorite “Out Of Order.” The powerful “Bridgeless” came next before the dance-rocker “Bad Friday.” Umphrey’s then dusted off a cover of “Layla” by Derek & The Dominos for the first time in 101 shows before ending the set with the conclusion of “Bridgeless.” The six-piece said farewell with an encore that featured “Booth Love” and the end of “All In Time.”
