We have JamBase contributor Andrew Bruss on scene at this weekend’s Umphrey’s McGee shows at the House Of Blues in Boston, so we’ll have a full report soon but we wanted to share the setlist from the band’s annual mash-up-filled Halloween performance. UM debuted a total of four mash-ups this evening.
The first set came to a close with the evening’s first mash-up, “Walk This Sweet Funk Emotion,” which combined “Sweet Emotion” (Aerosmith) with “Walk This Way” (Run– D.M.C.) and “Funk 49” (James Gang). Umphrey’s opened the second set with “The Triple Wide” and worked only their second version ever of Modest Mouse’s “Tiny Cities Made Of Ashes” within the instrumental. Next up was the evening’s second mash-up, “Give It To Me Mama Jama,” which combined She’s A Bad Mama Jama (Carl Carlton) + Give It To Me Baby (Rick James). The dream sequence of “All In Time” > “Glory” > “Ocean Billy,” “Nothing Too Fancy” > “All In Time” served as the meat of the closing stanza. After “Puppet String,” the second set came to a close with “National Loser Anthem, Tonight;” a mash-up of Radiohead’s “National Anthem,” Beck’s “Loser” and “In The Air Tonight” by Phil Collins. For the encore, UM served up a cover of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Lenny” and the evening’s final mash-up of “Strangletage” (“Sabotage” by Beastie Boys x Ted Nugent’s “Stranglehold.” Check back tomorrow for a photos and on-scene analysis.
