Umphrey’s McGee Busts Out Miles Davis & Modest Mouse Covers In Las Vegas

Umphrey’s McGee continued their current West Coast Tour last night, holding a concert at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas. Sin City was treated to bust out covers by Miles Davis and Modest Mouse as part of the two set performance Friday night.

“Flamethrower” opened a first set that concluded with a rendition of “Der Bluten Kat” featuring guitarist Brendan Bayliss improvising lyrics during a jam within the song. Set one also featured “Puppet String” open up into “Roctopus,” “Attachments,” a take on “Out Of Order” that concluded with the ending of “Puppet String” and “Got Your Milk (Right Here).”

The second half began with a performance of “Gurgle” that included a tease of the subsequent “Speak Up.” The first UM performance of 2017 of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire” came within their original “The Floor” and the set progressed with instrumental “Kabump” and “Comma Later.” The set ended with a covers of Miles Davis’ “In A Silent Way” for the first time since last August and just the third time since 2007, followed by the first UM “It’s About That Time” since January 2015 (a 260 show gap). “Glory” got the encore started and segued into just the third-ever UM cover of Modest Mouse’s “The Good Times Are Killing Me” which was last played in August 2016. “Mad Love” followed to close out the night in Vegas.
