U2 :: 05.11.18 :: T-Mobile Arena :: Las Vegas, NV
Irish rockers U2 played the ninth show of their eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour on Friday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Bono, Larry Mullen Jr., The Edge and Adam Clayton are known for using ambitious production at their live performances and this tour has been no different. U2 utilizes two stages at opposite ends of the floor with a 100-foot walkway dubbed the “barricage” featuring video screens connecting the two. At times the band members performed amidst video projections.
U2 continues to put a focus on material from 2017’s Songs Of Experience with nine songs off the LP making the setlist on Friday in Sin City including the opening sequence of “Love Is All We Have Left,” “The Blackout” and “Lights Of Home.” The quartet then went with the more familiar “Beautiful Day” and “I Will Follow” ahead of the tour’s third performance of “Gloria” off October.
One show earlier the band had offered the live debut of Songs Of Experience’s “Red Flag Day” and it made the setlist once again last night in Vegas. The 26-song concert didn’t feature any cuts from The Joshua Tree, yet there was plenty of beloved material such as “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “Elevation,” “Vertigo,” and “Staring At The Sun.” Bono used a moment before the “One” that started the evening’s encore to talk about the mass shooting at the Mandalay Bay hotel on October 1. The singer reportedly mentioned “thoughts are prayers are not enough” and praised those who helped in the moments and days after the shootings.
