Tyler Childers Joins John Prine In Cincinnati

John Prine held a show at the Taft Theatre in Cincinnati on Saturday night. The 71-year-old singer-songwriter welcomed fellow singer-songwriter Tyler Childers to sit-in during the sold-out performance.

Childers was on hand to serve as the evening’s opener. His solo set on acoustic guitar featured several selections from his 2017 album Purgatory including “Whitehouse Road,” “Born Again” and “Branded Clovis.”

Prine’s headlining set mixed songs from his recently issued album The Tree Of Forgiveness with favorites from throughout his career. “Knockin’ on Your Screen Door,” “Summer’s End,” “God Only Knows,” “Caravan of Fools,” “Egg & Daughter Nite, Lincoln Nebraska, 1967 (Crazy Bone)” and other from the new record were chosen for Saturday’s show. They came alongside such Prine classics as “Bruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow),” “Your Flag Decal Won’t Get You Into Heaven Anymore,” “Hello In There,” “Angel From Montgomery” and the set-closer “Lake Marie.”

Prine’s band mates left the stage for a portion of the set which included solo renditions of “Everything Is Cool,” “Illegal Smile,” “Sam Stone” and “That’s the Way That the World Goes ‘Round.” Childers emerged to duet with Prine on “Please Don’t Bury Me.”

The encore began with “When I Get to Heaven” from Prine’s new album. Prine’s wife Fiona Prine and Childers then joined the band for a show-closing performance of “Paradise.” Watch the collaborative “Please Don’t Bury Me” captured by asiansplenda below:
