Twiddle Honors Gordon Stone At Higher Ground
Twiddle paid tribute to fellow Vermont musician Gordon Stone, who passed away earlier this month, by covering one of his songs on Saturday. The quartet’s cover of Stone’s “Sunday Driver” kicked off the penultimate show of Twiddle’s Roots Tour at Higher Ground in South Burlington, Vermont.
The Roots Tour ran from July 9 – 26 and included performances at notable places from the band’s history. Higher Ground hosted Twiddle on Friday and Saturday before the four-piece ended the tour at Paramount Theatre in Rutland, Vermont on Sunday.
“Our good friend Gordon Stone passed away recently and we used to play with him a lot here,” frontman Mihali said before introducing the “Sunday Driver” opener on Saturday. Twiddle then performed a lengthy segment that strung together “Every Soul” and “Tiberius” before the quartet worked a cover of Lipps Inc’s “Funky Town” within their own “Apples.” Saturday’s first set came to a close with a version of “The Fantastic Tale Of Ricky Snickle” featuring a Braveheart monologue.
Twiddle’s final Roots Tour set at Higher Ground began with “The Box.” Covers of Daft Punk’s “Robot Rock” and Air’s “La Femme D’Argent” followed and then the band jammed “Nicodemus Portulay” into the end of “The Box.” Twiddle capped the night by pairing “Drift” and “River Drift.”
Next up for Twiddle is a series of drive-in concerts.
