Turzi: A

Wow! Paris-based Turzi aren’t ones to dilly-dally. The most brisk production value wraps up their brand of Prog/Krautrock in luminous ventilations with a wink and a nod to the Blade Runner and Tron soundtracks. All of the songs start with the letter “A” and range through bodies of tingling synthesizers and cerebral drum patterns. Some moments are easy on the ears but heavy on the mind. The guitars shoot out like laser beams into the science fiction inspired strata. With its drippy keyboard and drum patterns, East Indian-like trance feel and sidling French dialog, “A Notre Pere” is one of the highlights of A (Kemado). If Turzi’s music had a pure visual component it would probably be seizure inducing. The band draws their instrumental inspiration from a realm too deep for the listener to understand but its beauty lies in their ability to carry us through a mind melting teleportation that nobody can unravel. In short, to each his own when it comes to A.
