Getting The Show On The Road: Trey Anastasio Interviews Members Of The Phish Crew

Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio interviewed a number of crew members while the band was in Mexico for the sixth installment of their Riviera Maya destination event last weekend. Trey dubbed the video series “What Are You Doing?” and the impromptu interviews give behind-the-scenes insight into the hard work and dedication that goes into every Phish show.

Anastasio and the whole band have long been champions of their crew, recognizing them in various ways throughout the decades. Most recently, Trey began interviewing members of the crew backstage during Phish’s 2022 New Year’s run at Madison Square Garden, speaking with “Amanda and Maddie rockin’ the lights” as well as extended members of the Phish crew for the 2022 NYE gag. Trey was on to something and continued his interviews while the band was in Mexico, this time with a name for the series: “What Are You Doing?” Anastasio began with Keyboard Technician Eddie Piotrowski, who gave a fascinating run down on how he tunes keyboardist Page McConnell’s piano:

Trey then spoke with Tour Rigger Kieran Donnelly, who details the intricacies of getting lighting designer Chris Kuroda’s light rig in the air:

Next, Trey spoke with Audio Technician Brett “Grover” Rodgers, who also works with Trey Anastasio Band and Oysterhead. Trey asks him to “walk me through your day”:

On the logistics side of things, Trey interviews Phish Road Manager Abby Fusco, who wears many hats and is the “face of the production office”:

Finally, Trey spoke with Dressing Room Coordinator Lindsay Xenakis, who talked looking out for Phish family members and whose job is to “make sure that everybody feels at home when they come on the road.”:

2023 marks Phish’s 40th anniversary year. The band and crew return to action in April for 2023 Spring Tour.
