Tré Burt released a new single, “Dixie Red,” a tribute to the late great John Prine featuring singer-songwriter Kelsey Waldon. The song is set to land on Burt’s upcoming album, You, Yeah, You, arriving via the John Prine co-founded Oh Boy Records on August 27.

You, Yeah, You is Burt’s second album following his 2020 debut LP Caught It From The Rye. You, Yeah, You sees the Sacramento-based singer-songwriter teaming up with producer Brad Cook — who also plays bass and synth — to record the album at Sound Pure studio in Durham, North Carolina. The new record also features contributions from Phil Cook on keyboards and harmonica, Alex Farrar on lead guitar, Matt McCaughan (Bon Iver, Hiss Golden Messenger) on drums, percussion and synth as well as Sylvan Esso’s Amelia Meath and Burt’s Oh Boy labelmate Kelsey Waldon on backing vocals.

Burt has previewed You, Yeah, You with the singles “Sweet Misery” and “By The Jasmine” and now follows with a tribute to his hero John Prine, “Dixie Red.” Tré detailed the homage in a statement. Read his words below:

I prayed under an old Oak tree in my neighborhood a lot for John and his family while he was in the hospital last year. In the days following his passing I was mostly silent and listened to The Tree of Forgiveness non-stop. One night, I was standing on my porch looking at the full moon through a break in the trees over my street. It was especially silver and awfully large. The moon looked as if it were signaling John’s safe arrival to the other side. I felt privileged to witness this message sent for his family. ‘Dixie Red’ is a southern grown peach and that line from “Spanish Pipedream” has always been so potent to me. So I used a peach as imagery to represent John’s body of work he left behind for all of us.

“Dixie Red” arrived along with a video directed by Lance Bangs. Watch it below:
