The Infamous Stringdusters bassist Travis Book recently suffered multiple injuries after he crashed his bicycle. Book will be unable to perform the remaining shows of the band’s Ski Dust Tour with Barry Bales and Jeff Picker set to fill in for him.
The bassist was riding his bike on Monday, January 27 when he was involved in an accident. Travis Book fractured multiple ribs, his clavicle and his scapula. Thankfully, Book is expected to fully recover and aims to return to action in March after a six to eight-week layoff.

The Infamous Stringdusters will continue their Ski Dust Tour on February 7 in Aspen. Additional February shows follow in the Colorado mountain towns of Grand Junction and Telluride before the group ends the trek with a four-night stand in Park City, Utah on February 13 – 16.
Barry Bales is the longtime bass player for Alison Krauss & Union Station who will embark on their first tour in over 10 years this April. Jeff Picker spent the last two years touring with Nickel Creek. Both musicians are based in Nashville.
Read a full statement from Travis Book about his injury below:
Friends and family,
On Monday the 27th I crashed my bicycle on a descent near my home in Brevard, NC. I fractured multiple ribs, a clavicle, and a scapula. I’m in good hands, and have good meds, and the prognosis for recovery is good. I will have to miss the remains shows on the Ski Dust tours including Aspen, Telluride, Grand Junction, and Park city. This is truly heartbreaking, as I’ve been looking forward to these shows (and the skiing) for almost a year.
Fortunately, there is no shortage of amazing bass players in our circle of friends, and the band has recruited two of the best to fill in for me; Barry Bales, and Jeff Picker.
I hope to be playing again in 6 to 8 weeks, and return to tour in March. I have all I need, but if you want to send some healing vibes, or prayers, or whatever you’re into, that is always appreciated. Onward!!!”
