Trampled By Turtles Share Cover Of ‘Christmas In Prison’ By John Prine

Duluth, Minnesota’s Trampled by Turtles have taken a bit of a break in 2016 to let members focus on other projects, but today there’s a new song from the band. Trampled By Turtles recorded a cover of John Prine’s holiday classic “Christmas In Prison” for Acoustic Christmas, a holiday playlist on Amazon Music.

Prine originally recorded “Christmas In Prison” for inclusion on his third album, 1973’s Sweet Revenge. “John Prine has always been one of my favorite songwriters,” Trampled By Turtles’ Dave Simonett told Rolling Stone Country. “‘Christmas in Prison’ is a great example of his ability to mix humor with heartbreaking beauty.”

Amazon Music’s Acoustic Christmas playlist is expected to be available for exclusive streaming on the service today. It contains 29 tracks from a wide range of acts including Sara Watkins, Andrew Combs, Hayes Carll, Escondido and Billy Bragg and Joe Henry.
