Tortoise announced a series of special concerts to be held this October and November. The news follows the March release of “Oganesson,” the pioneering post-rock band’s first new music since 2016.
Tortoise — Jeff Parker, Dan Bitney, Douglas McCombs, John Herndon and John McEntire — will begin the run in Los Angeles on October 18 before heading to Texas for a show in Austin on October 23 and appearance at the Flying Island festival in Marfa on October 25. The group then returns to their hometown of Chicago, where they’ll perform with the Chicago Philharmonic on November 11.
The live orchestra will accompany Tortoise at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre as they debut new music and dig into classic cuts from their back catalog. The first-of-its-kind performance “promises to be an immersive experience — one that reflects both the experimental and iconic spirit of Tortoise and the classical prowess of the Chicago Philharmonic, held in the acoustically rich setting of The Auditorium,” as per a press release.

On November 12, Tortoise will bring the series to Lexington, Kentucky. It’s then off to New York City for a two-night stand at Bowery Ballroom November 14 – 15. Finally, the quintet crosses the Atlantic to play the famed Barbican Centre in London.
Tickets to the new U.S. headline dates go on sale this Friday, July 18 at 10 a.m. local time. Tortoise’s previously announced London show is sold out.
