CANCELLATION OF TOOTS & THE MAYTALS TOUR

Earlier this month we reported on an incident in Richmond, VA; where a glass bottle was thrown by a 19-year-old man at legendary reggae performers Toots and the Maytals’ lead singer Fredrick “Toots” Hibbert. Toots went on with a handful of shows after suffering a “bloody forehead laceration,” but has returned home to Jamaica to focus on recovering from the injury.
Hibbert’s decision to go home has led to the cancellation of four acoustic concerts. Toots and the Maytals were set to perform in Annapolis, MD tonight, Ithaca, NY tomorrow and South Orange, NJ and Norfolk, CT this weekend. Toots spokesman Andrea Davis told the Associated Press that “the singer regretted having to cancel the tour, but that he wanted to focus on his recovery.”
Next up for Toots and the Maytals is a U.K. tour that kicks off at the end of July.
Here’s a list of the shows that were canceled:
5/29 Annapolis, MD – Rams Head On Stage (Acoustic)
5/30 Ithaca, NY – The State Theater (Acoustic)
5/31 South Orange, NJ – South Orange Performing Arts Center (Acoustic)
6/1 Norfolk, CT – Infinity Hall (Acoustic)
The JamBase Team wishes Hibbert a quick recovery and hope to see him out there on stage later this summer.
