Legendary reggae group Toots and the Maytals dusted off their cover of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Road” for their recently released Spotify Singles session. Frontman Frederick “Toots” Hibbert originally included the song on the band’s 1973 album In The Dark. The Toots version famously changes Denver’s “West Virginia” to “West Jamaica.”
Toots And The Maytals’ Spotify Singles session also contains a live cut of their recent single, “A Song Call Marley.” The tune is a tribute to the legendary Bob Marley, with whom Toots And The Maytals and others developed the reggae genre in the 1960s. “A Song Call Marley” arrived in 2018 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Toots And The Maytals’ 1968 titular single “Do the Reggay,” which is widely considered the song that coined the name of the genre.
