ToolArchive Compiles Maynard James Keenan Rants From Recent Tour

Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan was more talkative than usual during the band’s January tour with Primus. The folks at ToolArchive have compiled Maynard’s “rants” in one handy 28-minute package.
Maynard alternates between humor and more serious moments. While early in the compilation Keenan takes aim at an audience member dressed as a banana, one of the more serious discussions comes around the 2:15 mark when the singer discusses late Medal of Honor recipient and Tool fan Robert Miller. Keenan had posted a photo of a rifle with the lyrics of “Vicarious” on it to honor Miller and some took it as an endorsement of the military. The singer makes it clear he isn’t serving up an apology for posting the photo, but takes time to acknowledge the misunderstanding.
The Grateful Dead are brought into the compilation thanks to Keenan’s banter from San Francisco. “That was a longass space jam and not a single one of you were hand dancing that’s a shame San Francisco! I’m not singing until I see hand dancing Jerry Garcia style,” Keenan said. After the next song he follows up his previous rant with “Fantastic [job] hand dancers, it’s like Jerry’s not even dead!” There’s also talk of Lemmy, David Bowie, anal beads, pot smoke and the Carolina Panthers within plus so much more.
